The Middletown Comprehensive Plan is a long-range guide for the future development of the town and for the preservation of the unique characteristics which make the town special for its citizens. The existing plan was a result of an enthusiastic effort by a Citizens Committee made up of volunteers who developed the issues identified and expanded upon in the plan. The current plan, which was revised and adopted by the Middletown Town Council on April 7, 2003,is now in the process of being updated. Under the Rhode Island Comprehensive Planning and Land Use Regulation Act, Chapter 45-22.12 of the General Laws, each municipality must update its comprehensive plan at least once every five (5) years.
The Middletown Town Council solicited applicants to serve on the Comprehensive Plan Update Committee in January 2009, with the first Update Committee meeting in February 2009. It is the hope of the Committee to complete the update process by the end of Fall 2009.
Understanding that comprehensive plans must reflect the people they serve, the Town of Middletown encourage citizens input at all stages of the planning process. Residents and property owners are encouraged to attend the planning meeting, which occur on the 1st and 3rd Thursdays (5pm – 7pm) of every month. Stay tuned to the meetings link for information related to upcoming meetings and agendas.
The following list consists of the required sections of Middletown’s Comprehensive Plan. As the update committee works a particular section, you will find a link to the draft document below. The committee will work on one section at a time, until the end of the update process.
