Middletown Fire Battalion Chief Brian DeFreitas and Fire Marshal Bill Homer lead a CPR and automated external defibrillator course Thursday from the Fire Station community room for the four new Middletown Police Community Service Officers Tyler Lamontagne, Peter Remka, Nick Reyes and Nathan Souza. The training included classroom and hands-on work to help prepare the CSOs and others for different emergencies they might face over the summer. All four CSOs are criminal justice majors in their senior years of college. In addition to CPR and AED training, they'll become certified in the use of Narcan, work zone safety, ethics and other areas critical to modern-day police work.
