A crew with A-1 Construction was in the process Friday morning of replacing the stairs at the historic Paradise School on Prospect Avenue. The old stairs were rotting and needed to be replaced. A-1 is expected to wrap up the job over the next week or so.

Newport firefighters were out this morning along West Main Road, checking their fire hose adapters. Officials said Newport Fire uses a fire hose thread different than other departments, so an adapter is needed to tie into the hydrant system in Middletown.
